Why rates matter for FX
Central banks (Fed, ECB, SBP, RBI) set policy rates. Higher relative interest rates tend to attract capital → can strengthen a currency over time, though short-term reactions vary.
- Rate hike — often currency supportive if expected; surprise matters.
- Rate cut — often currency negative if unexpected.
- Forward guidance — statement hints at future path; markets move on expectations.
Do not trade rates blindly — combine with technical levels and risk limits from Module 4.
